Weird Drake

My drake loves to hang out with me. He comes inside the coop when I clean and stands and talks to me. When it's warm he goes up top with me and we hang out and watch the fun in the pool. Sometimes he gets a little carried away and tries to usurp his dominance over me Depending on how much is how I react. If we're close to the pool he gets tossed in there is not and he keeps being persistent I do hold him down till he chills. Drakes can be a handful especially those who have been hand reared. But I am always so amazed at the relationship I have with this drake he is very special :love

My Runner drake is just like that. He imprinted on me, and was very much hand-raised and loved on. As he got older, he'd try to herd me, and peck at me - even little bites sometimes (nothing that really hurt). He thought I was part of his flock. So I started 'playing' back with him - nudging him with my foot, playing 'I got your beak', basically, treating him like a puppy. I found that once I played with him for a few minutes he'd let me go about my business without being constantly under foot, though sometimes he'd still follow me up the walk, off to the side. Basically, I found that he just wants some attention from me.

I tried doing some things I found online to show him he was not dominant over me (as I was not part of his flock), like holding him on his back, but he actually seems to like it - I literally will carry him around, cradled like a baby, and he just loves it. He looks up at me, I think hoping for beak rubs. But he's my little weirdo and I love him. LoL

Sorry if it seemed like I was being accusatory, I have just owned chickens/ducks who like to follow me around. I was thinking that he originally thought of you as a motherly figure, but it doesnt seem like so. Have you tried pinning him everyday for a week or two? That's how I tamed my aggressive rooster

oh i didnt take it that way at all. I'm a newb.

yea i just need to be persistent i guess and keep my temper hah. I have dunked him in his pond a few times lol. Light kicks dont seem to do much. Picking him up and holding him helps a bit.

It's definitely aggression though initially. Hard pecks with a twist. They don't hurt but they will leave you a nice hickey looking bruise up and down your arm. I was actually surprised the first time he did it.
