I'm a bit perplexed this morning. We found this granular substance when we cracked open an egg, in the egg white mucous. Any ideas what it could be? Chickens all seem healthy and happy. It is composed of a bunch of small granules clustered together.

ew, I think it's just an reproduction glitch, it happens sometimes, but if it keeps happening, there might be an issue.

Calcium deposits.
More frequently seen on the outside of an egg shell, they can form inside the shell too. Looks like they may have clung to an extra thick piece of chalaza.
Was the rest of the egg 'normal'?
I wouldn't worry about it, unless you see it frequently.
