Did that pip/hole happen in the air pocket?Update. I made a big hole in the air pocket. I decided to leave it in the shell as the blood vessels were still pink and it seemed active/ flinched when I poked it.
Nah, it looks like an impact, like maybe another chick ran into it or something. Cracks going in, not out. But, it’s still alive now, at like, 3:30 in the morning. I’m going to wait a couple more hours then help it out completely. I’ve got 3 others in the incubator that probably need help, I’ve got 6 in the brooder that hatched yesterday. Unfortunately chick no.7 drowned in the water (probably a freak accident, but I lowered the water level), and I ended up with two clear and a day 17 quitter. Over all though, good hatch for a cheap incubator and 15 eggs. It was a memorial hatch, so I’m super excited to see how things feather out, and if I really did get chicks from one of the Orpington hens.(they were nice, but dumb as a box of rocks. They unfortunately didn’t last raccoon season)It looks like the hole is at the wrong end of the egg. Could it have pipped the wrong end and ruptured something like the yolk sac?
It feels hard actually. That’s what seems so strange. But it could be from weird humidity.Did that pip/hole happen in the air pocket?
So odd, kinda looks like jelly in the photo, was the humidity possibly too high?
