I tried to upload a picture but I could not. My maran laid an egg that was round and size of a quarter. She has been laying for a month without a problem. What do you think?

Howdy marypcoleman

Hens new to laying can lay some funny looking eggs for a while until their internal plumbing gets the hang of things. Some older hens will lay the occasional ‘Fairy’ egg.

If you Google ‘Fairy egg’ images or search BYC for ‘fairy’ or ‘fart’ eggs you will most likely find something similar to what your girl laid.

Unless she continues to lay them frequently, they are nothing to worry about.

It does not sound like it was a ‘lash’ egg but you might want to check those out also.

This is a little fairy egg one of my gals laid:

'Fairy' eggs can be complete with yolk and others have no yolk and just the egg white. They can be caused by an interruption to the rhythm of the laying process.

Thanks for the help. One of them had been laying around a lot but with some TLC and yogurt and milk she seems better. However, I have two that lay this color so ? Nice to know it is fairly normal
