( Ethel is a turkey, her brood are chicks she adopted) Ethel is broody and sort of setting on her nest. She seems to get bored and get off from it a lot. I doubt any of her clutch will hatch. This is her first season and she is not dedicated to nesting.

While her and her brood were off the nest I walked by and noticed a small egg. It resembles a chicken but is about half size, like a pullet egg. It does not have the point of a turkey egg and is missing the freckles Ethel has on her eggs.

Is it possible for a chick 11- 12 weeks old to lay an egg? I am really confused by this.

Ethel's chicks set around her on her nest, along with my goslings. So if a young one laid an egg that would be the logical spot. But I think they are way too young.

Any Ideas?

I hope someone can help me or give me a suggestion. thanks

I'm new to this, and our girls have only been laying for 5-6 weeks. The variety is AMAZING! One of girls gives us a double yolker at least once a week and we got an itty bitty one, too. Not as rounded as yours, but not quite normal chicken shaped either. Apparently sometimes they'll lay yolk-less eggs. I haven't crack out tiny egg, but can't wait to see what is in or not in it! I've heard of them laying "farts'...aka weird little ones. I would doubt it's from an 11-12 week old girly. :)

Thanks,

I broke the egg open. It had no yolk, and a very ugly white.

Sadly though Ethel has abandoned the nest. I guess the silly bird thought 2 weeks was long enough. Now I need to think hard about even letting her keep an egg next year.
