I need suggestions on breaking broody behavior. My Cuckoo Maran has gone broody AGAIN, that's twice in 3 months! Last time I repeatedly and several times a day; physically removed her from the lay box everyday.. over and over and over again... for a period of about 6 weeks! I do NOT want to do that this time! SO, I have slipped 3 golf balls under her and remove the eggs from the other girls daily. I just let her sit in there day after day and have resigned myself to just let her be with her golf balls! However, my husband suggested something a little different. He proposed that I should go buy a baby chick at the feed store and slip the baby under her .. and remove the golf balls. Do you think this would work? Has anyone tried this? I don't want 3 more chicks to equal the 3 golf balls, but could do one more... IF, you all think this may work.

Its worked for lots of us. I typically introduce chicks at night, hang around for 10 or 15 minutes to make sure everything's okay and then check on them again as early in the morning as I can manage.

Something to keep in mind though, most feed stores have a 6 chick minimum (at least around here they do). You might want to call ahead and inquire about that before making the drive out.

Good luck!

Using a broody buster in the future may save you from the weeks of hassle trying to break her as you have done. If interested, just type broody buster in the search box.
