WEIRD or ODD Eggs pics!!!! :)

I cracked an egg open for breakfast the other morning and found two yolks, one completely normal and the other hard, round and filled with blood. My chickens are all acting normal and I don't have any idea who laid the egg.



The strange yolk is the one on the spoon. I had to use a sharp knife to cut it open. The inside was filled with blood red gel.



To be honest, it really grossed me out and i couldn't eat breakfast after that.

Thank goodness I haven't seen another like it since.

My chickens are all acting normal, so I'm not sure what happened.

Do you have a rooster around? I suspect the hard part was fertilized, but since only half was fertilized, it didn't survive. The hen I had that laid strange eggs is now free range full time. She WAS was in a tiny cage, then set loose here. I wonder if it was stress, or what she PERCEIVED as stress, that caused her strange shipped eggs for the first few weeks. Never can tell with Critters!

I have never had an egg like that. It is a new one on me.

I seriously doubt it was from fertilization......some strange blood vessel anomaly when ova was released at the follicle is my guess.

My eggs right now if I get any are rough on the outside and speckled with light and dark coloring, don't know what the problem is

Are they young layers? If they are they may be still working out their kinks.

This was inside a super jumbo egg, along with one normal yolk. I stabbed it with a knife and it is filled with a clear gel. Any ideas?
