WEIRD or ODD Eggs pics!!!! :)

Today I found this perfectly round golf ball sized egg buried in one of my pens. I only found it because it was partially dug up. It was about 4+ inches under the top surface of the hole. I candled it and it looks like it has been in the ground for quite awhile. I could see the yolk but it was dark so I think it is rotten inside. I'm not going to break it open. I put the feathers in the bottom of the hole where I found the egg.

After some research, I found out that I found a Gopher Tortise egg (in a chicken pen). I candled it and apparently there is a little tortise in the egg. I have also found out that since I have handled the egg that if it is alive it won't be for long once they are handled. I'll dig around more tomorrow to see if there are any more eggs.

It didnt. My dad told me to throw it over the barb for good luck, that's what they did when he was a kid. But...I don't have a barn!!

I have a question I found an quarter sized egg in my run this morning. All of my chickens lay in there coop and lay decent size eggs. What could this be???

Are any of your hens older?
Could just be a blip in the egg machine, that happens sometimes no matter the age.

Most likely a fart egg. Mine lay them every once in awhile.

All my hens are between 6 & 8 months. I think it's just so weird I've never had an egg this small before , not to mention I found it outside in 7* weather.

Tortoises are Awesome! It did look like some kind of reptile egg, glad it wasn't alligators
The female tortoise probably thought it looked like a cozy place to make a nest.
If you're okay with it, just block off the area until the eggs hatch, and then move the little guys into a safe area where hungry critters won't make a snack of them.
Or you could call in a wildlife person and ask them to gently move the remaining eggs. They are usually well equipped to handle the very tricky task of incubating reptile eggs.

Today we had our fist reversed egg, white in the middle and yolk on the outside, we had hard boiled it. We were almost scared to cut it and were shocked to find the white! Has this happened to anyone else?
