Well, I finally got my babes out to the outdoor coop. I put the tote I had as a brooder in the coop on its side for them to huddle together and keep warm at night. Their feathers are growing great. They have a fabulous chicken run and I've seen them cleaning the yard of bugs already. I put a chair, tire, and a plastic pipe in the run area for them to play on.
Everything seems to be going great, however, last night I was sitting in the chair watching them and I noticed a chicken under the chair was puffed up like she was going to poop. But after she had been puffed up for a little longer than a regular poop I started to watch her because I thought it was odd. Her poop came out in one clump attached to a piece of grass that was attached to another clump. One of the smaller clumps looked like it had blood on it. I wasn't sure what exactly it was, she seemed like she was straining to get it out.
This morning I let them out and picked one of the hens up and she seemed to be wheezing. I picked the rest of them up and didn't hear anything. I watched this hen for a little, she pooped and ate fine. I'm not sure if it was the same hen from the night before with the odd poop but I'll be needing to keep an eye on them.
The hens are new to the outdoor coop, they've been out there for only five days or so. They seem to be doing great and taking to being outdoors well. It's just the wheezing and the poop that have me nervous. Any suggestions would be great.
