Meet Bob the Bantam. S/he is five weeks old.

I think s/he defective. In a sweet way. Skittish and uninterested in us humans. I don’t think Bob read the Silkie Personality Manual.

Also, Two or three weeks ago developed a bald spot on the back of the head as the down began to fall off and true feathers came in. No other chick in my brood of 18 has any signs of mites or disease. No picking or bad behavior. Eating and drinking well.
So…

1. What’s up with the bald spot?
2. Any guesses on sex?
(3. Is there a Silkie Behavior Manual she should be reading?)

They're really cute! Is it possible they have some showgirl in the line? I've got a silkie chick with a similar bald patch and they came from a mixed pen with showgirls. Considering the size of the wattles and comb at this age, I'd say they're a cockerel but I do know silkies can be hard to sex.

It’s one chick. Many pics. And unlikely to have showgirl, just good ol’ Tractor Supply bantam.
