We have a Rhode Island Red chicken named Beefsteak (Steak for short) who has these weird things underneath her eyes. She has had them all her life, and I'm really wondering what these are and if they might affect her vision in any way. She always seemed fine, but maybe a little slow. She is not be eating her food and will only eat wet food(mash) and sunflower seeds. She also seems to be pecking places where the food is not like she is getting double vision or something. If you can please tell me what these things under her eyes are or what is going on with her vision that would be great. See the pictures below; I circled the thing that I am wondering about in green so it can be easily seen. Thanks!

Photos that are clearer and in better lighting may be helpful. Can you have someone hold her while you get more photos?

She has the lumps under both eyes and she's had them all her life (from hatch?).

It looks like some sort of skin growth, not caused by a disease or anything like that. I'd say it's harmless except like you mentioned, it may affect her vision especially if it continues to grow. Perhaps it can be surgically removed by a vet but there might be a possibility it could regrow in time.

Thank you for your advice! We bought her as a pullet so never really saw if she had them from hatching but ever since we had her, she has had them. We don't have a vet around where we live so we can't get them removed. I will also try to get some better pictures soon.

I got some better pictures from different angles. Thank you everybody for your advice so far!

So it's under BOTH eyes or just the left one?

Likely from some type of injury, perhaps cut or torn on something if it's only one eye.

If on both eyes, that would be very odd.

This is the same chicken we posted about here:

She is doing better now, eating and drinking and back with the flock, and we are finishing giving her antibiotics today for a possible infection as suggested, but ever since she got sick, she does seem to have some kind of vision problem. She is slower than usual, and seems unable to get off the roost by herself, although she can get onto it fine. She can eat from the feeder but if we give mash somewhere else she seems to have a hard time finding it. My son posted this, but I'm not convinced these eye growths are suddenly causing her problems as she's always had them. I think its more related to whatever she had going on? At least she is doing better and will probably just need some extra care. Thanks!!

Oh, yes, in the other thread it looks like she's got Salpingitis which is an inflammation of the oviduct. Antibiotics may help for a while.

Since she seems to suddenly have a hard to time with vision, I'd make sure that feed/water is in the same place - always. If giving extras like the mash, then you may need to guide her to the bowl or just pull her aside for a few minutes with a separate bowl so she can eat in peace.
Getting up on the roost no problem but can't get down may not even be related to vision.
I've had several hens that had reproductive disorders who absolutely could get on roosts, but they would not jump down. They had no vision issues at all. What I determined with mine was that it was painful to jump down from the roost. So, each morning I would just go take them off the roost. They'd wait for me.
This may be what's going on with your Gal since she's having some reproductive problems and inflammation.
