Weird wild duckling

Pics
I don't know what Trouble will do in breeding season because he isn't showing signs of normal hormonal behavior. The other males his age are already showing some interest in girls. Trouble is showing interest, but only in girls who make squeaky sounds like a mother duck does. I think he sees them as moms right now and not something more fun. He's following around a vocal female buff duck who has a boyfriend twice his size. Luckily, he reads duck body language very well and knows when he should stay away.

That's good he has learned to read duck body language. he has been slow to mature so hopefully the light will come on When one of those pretty young girls walks by.

That's what I've been thinking. He's still in duckling mode, mentally.

But, on the plus side, the other mallards seem to accept him. He is extremely curious about gadwalls, but most of them seem scared of him for some reason.

Once he finds his mate you'll have to post pics of the happy couple.

Here's trouble's picture of the week. It was very low light today and you can see the browns in his feathers in front of the wings. It was less obvious in the previous pictures as they were washed out by the bright sunlinght, especially on the other side of his body. This is definitely the same duck, though.

How pretty, looks like he is coming into his on. finally

I still walk up to him and tell him that he's the cutest one just like when he was a duckling. When he's on the ground sleeping, he looks soooo tiny!
