Weird yellow bump (picture attached)

My 6 week old chick has an odd yellow hard bump at the base of her throat. At first we figured it was the crop but after a few days it's still there but now it's slightly black on the bottom with an odd white small string slightly hanging out. Any ideas of what's going on.

At first glance this looks like an ingrown feather to me. The feather follicle is swollen because the pinfeather did not properly break through the skin.


BUT: Where exactly is this bump situated? The picture does not really show. It might as well be some grain (barley or else) that shows through or penetrates the soft skin.

Did you take another good look at it? Does it rather look like an ingrown feather or some wheat or barley grain poking through the skin? A grain would feel hard.

If you enlarge the photo you can see the feather follicle poking through the center

@IvoryStorm: You might disinfect the area and carefully try to pull little by little grabbing the whitish pinfeather end with likewise disinfected tweezers.
