what's the oddest looking bird you've had while trying to produce a new color or breed? or have you ever had a cross go totally opposite the way you where trying to achieve?

They are O D D , not unexpected --- I breeded them to be that way

But in answer to your question, Pokey.
A totally weird thing here is "why was I getting 'wild' colors from my black, blue, splash Ameraucana pen".

The other great surprise are the nearly comb-less / wattle-less birds from a cross. I would have expected a modified pea-type or middle-of-the-road type comb.
But these just have a flat place where a comb would be.

I expect there are stranger things to come
