Weirdest Things Your Chickens Have Done

He’s trying so hard. I don’t know whether to say awww or laugh. What a sweetheart.
I laughed because I am mean like that. (Joking, LOL.)

He's very sweet but quite clueless of of what a hen wants in a nesting spot xD
It is hidden, but under a tarp would probably be so hot and humid in the heated parts of the day!

My chicken star is good a making friends but enjoys trying to eat them just as they get comfortable. Here she is walking away all proud after pecking my poor little puppers in the eyeball. She also appeared to enjoy trying deer nose.View attachment 3930114View attachment 3930115
Ruby does the same thing! She pecks on the backs of my dogs to get whatever she can find!

I was out with my flock one late afternoon and Roger, my 1 year old roo, very randomly leaped forward into the air with his wings open and his feet out as if he was pouncing on something, but just landed on a young star thistle bush, then casually walked away like nothing happened. 😄 it was like he just had a moment where he had to show off his attack skills or something. It was quite impressive! Take that, ya damn thistle!
:gig My rooster does the same thing! Phoenix gets random bursts of excitement and flaps his wings repeatedly, then jumps into the air, kicks and lands back down. Then he purrs at himself, finds the closest hen, and dances at her like he is trying to show off what he just did. "Did you see me jump?!"

Slate thinks everything can be a nesting spot, even the weirdest places that I am sure no hen wants to be laying in. But anyway, this morning he would not shut up clucking for the hens. He was trying to tell them he found a potential nesting spot under this tarp. Summer, one of the Buff-Laced Polish hens, walked up to check it out, looked at Slate like he is weird, and walked away.

I have a hen that thinks a water bucket in the horse’s stall is a good place to lay an egg. The bucket is empty, I use it as a second bucket in really hot weather.

Sometimes she even lays an egg in there.

Not funny so much as sweet, but once I had a hen who had lived with a rabbit for a while. His jumping had shattered her nerves, so any sudden movement or noise had her running to me and hopping onto my shoulder because I saved her from the scary rabbit.

Oh, and this is funny, so my German shepherd loves to herd chickens while they are in the coop. I never let him out with them on purpose, but once he got out while the chickens were out and everything stopped. All four hens turned and stared. Nobody made a noise or moved, and the dog just stood there like, we'll, they're out. What now? Till he got called in and just ran back inside. So very anticlimactic!
Oooo the killer bunny! Very Monty Python!

Two of our cockerels jumped out of the run late yesterday afternoon. We captured one but one remained out overnight and running about in our wooded area where there are predators. He survived his overnight camping adventure. Earlier this afternoon we found him walking around coop 2. So we had to flank him to walk him back into his enclosure. Needless to say he was pretty thirsty.

Whoa Nelly! Lucky dude!

Aww, that's just too cute! Ferdy and his little sister, Penelope, used to use my big cat, Elliot, as a trampoline from being about 3 weeks old. They'd also creep up behind him whilst he slept and pull tufts of fur out of him.
If that was any of my barn cats………… how come y’all always get the nice ones??

I just end up with weird pets. Elliot didn't catch anything until shortly after his 11th birthday (he's 15 now) when he caught and killed a small bird. Until then, the closest he'd come to being a normal cat was when he caught a mouse and cuddled it. He then licked the poor thing until it died of sheer terror. His response to this was to sigh dramatically and lay his face next to it's body for approximately half an hour. We should have known he wasn't quite right when, on his first night with us, he stole a poppadom and chilli lime pickle from my plate. He devoured it and came back for more 😂

Apparently my chooks like my BIL better than me.

Last evening I was doing chores when this unholy kerfuffle happened - thought for sure a fox or eagle was killing someone.

They all ran to the end of the yard towards the house just screaming and squawking up a storm!

Gawd! I was trying to open the gate and run down to rescue them when I saw their reason for all the noise.

My BIL who had been away for a week was back - they were super eggcited to see him, I had 40-odd chickens following him back up to the barn - he had come up for a visit.

You see, he’s the ‘treat’ person hahaha!

They all eggspected treats 🤭
