Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

That's pretty dang cold. And my mistake, my 9 week olds are bantam cochins with momma. My youngest seramas are 15 weeks, and still sleep next to momma too. They are so tiny, I forgot they were that old till I looked it up.

We are around 33F this morning, and it's unreal the difference between that and sub-zero last week. :(
It sure is! It seems to get even colder after you have a week or two straight of those temperatures. Poor birdies.
That makes more sense. 9 week olds are still rather sparse in the feather department.

What temps? Just a bit below 0? -20F like she had is pretty hard on them... I had 16 wk bantams that couldn't take -30F even for a night. Don't know if you remember but one almost died (and would have if I hadn't brought her in that night) and one lost multiple toes and all the skin off her feet. They were end of August hatches. They're fine this year.

Apparently several of them have frozen their feet and legs if you can ascribe credibility to her threads. If you study from thread to thread, the story frequently changes. Daddy told me a long time ago to be truthful, "You ain't smart enough to be a good liar, boy." Good advice.

Thanks, K! I have snapped out of it. The problem is, she has already hatched them out in late fall, put them in the coop in sub-zero weather at 9 weeks without heat bacause she had read not to heat the coop and lost some. She didn't know it was going to get *that* cold...

What can you expect from someone who let her dog get 'accidentally' pregnant and thought it might be okay for her to whelp in those temperatures ?

Feels downright balmy, doesn't it?

There is that... So far I have been able to refrain from commenting directly to her.

She and I just had a minor interaction on the "What Breed are They" thread. Next post I will reiterate to her that 'true intelligence is knowing your limitations'. Last time I suggested that, she asked if I was calling her stupid. Who, me ?

I have seen some of your interactions with her. What I want to ask her is, how long has she lived there? Because if she's been there for any length of time, she should know that just because it's "warm" in October, winter is coming, and it's going to be cold. Being that far north, even an average winter would likely be too cold for 9 week old chicks to be without heat.

Whew! I feel so much better now. Thanks for letting me get that out of my system!
