Thinking it was a juvenile black rat snake WV. Needed to be removed from your premises. They're good at rodent control but as broody as your hens are it would have a feast on chicks and eggs. Also means there are others nearby.

I'm sure you are fine. Although..... 11 has been cursed number for my hubby and I. Both of us were married the first time for 11 years. We are now in year 11 married to each other, so we are both hoping this year passes quickly, with no problems. I think I'll wait until after our 12th anniversary before building another chicken coop with him.

Somebody dropped off a mutt. Funny thing is he doesn like the other dogs but he's perfactly happy to follow a person around. Usually it's the other way round.
