Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

Ironically, I was thinking how nice it would be to go a few weeks without something dying.
You know those OSHA calendars they put up in the break room at workplaces that say how many days since the last accident? I need one of those, only mine would say
Congratulations, the Orr farm has gone 0 days without a death. (starting today :( )

Sorry - it was definitely ground bound. E went outside to look at the crime scene with me. It Looks like probably raccoon. We heard them the other night. Our set up has trees that basically cover the coops and then extend over to our neighbor's yard. Looks like it came in on a tree, grabbed and grabbed at my young 55s through the one vulnerable spot in that pen and then yanked the cockerel through the welded wire, bending it. It's also one of the few spots my dogs can't access. Smart. I'm going to hardware cloth that area and really boost security on it. Dang. I'm not so upset about the cockerel - he was destined for the swap - but the pullet was a beautiful golden 55. The one I currently have in the house ate a bit after I gave her wound a good wash and slathered Neosporin on it. She's sleeping now. Poor thing.
I hope she pulls thru. :fl
And I hate you lost the other pullet.. That stinks..:hugs

Hello, Pond!
I actually get a break this morning.

@orrpeople - good job on fixing/cleaning/changing the swamp cooler thingie! When I take things apart, I usually have pieces left over when I get them put back together again. Sorry about your lost birds, though.

@room onthebroom - Wow! Excitement at your place! I’m glad they got the guy. I love police dogs, too.

@AmyPaperlady - sorry to hear about your FIL. The ambulance service I work on doesn’t generally allow passengers unless the patient is a child or infant.

@Fields Mountain Farm - I’m feeling much better today, thank you. For some reason, since surgery, cold, damp and windy weather makes my knees ache. I hope that goes away as things continue to heal.

@BYC910 - I hope you’re doing OK, K!

Have a great rest of the day, everyone!

I know all to well how that goes. This rain and chill we are having is keeping me sore and achy too...:(
Hope it warms up and dries out soon...:fl

Just told the girls that their grandpa died last night.
Oh no, so sorry about your loss. Makes my dead bunny seem less awful somehow. 20180412_163745.jpg

My stuff is situated under a big, spreading Maple, but the run's completely covered with 2x4 welded wire with a tarp over that, so nothing of consequence is going to get from above. Did lose a bird to a hawk that dropped into the chicken yard, over the fence, but now there's netting over that. Before the netting, I'd occasionally be visited by an opportunistic squirrel looking for scraps missed by the chickens.
