Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

Our feed store had a pair of geese that lived at the store forever. When one of them died suddenly, you never saw such mourning. :hit I swear if that guy could've eaten a bullet he would have. It went on for months & months. They eventually tried to introduce another goose, but it never really took. We felt terrible for him.
Thats just so sad! :hit

And Ive seen how lonely Vyx is, i certainly wouldnt want him to be that way permanently. :(

Exactly :( Lacie was so lonely when she was an only goose, and she is so much happier now that she has a mate and a flock. I cannot stand that guy for that reason alone.

So many people now are keeping just one goose because of him, it makes me sad. I have to correct SO MANY people about this on here every spring when they buy a 'guard goose' to raise all alone.

Some people are also keeping just one goose because they decided they only want one so to heck with what's good for the goose, they're just getting one, but that's a whole other thing (and makes me more mad, since at least people in the first group were mislead and given bad info and that's why they do it). I've gotten in arguments with these people. While the people who were told wrong are usually happy to get another goose and fix the situation, the people in this group often bury their heads in the sand and argue until they're blue in the face that they don't need another goose and they're not getting one, and no, they won't rehome their goose to where it can be happy and have a goose flock, either.

Pardon the rant, it's a bit of touchy subject for me :p

Its ok.. rant away! Its wrong and unfair for the geese involved. Im the same way when i hear people say they only want one goat and dont care if its not good for the goat. But at least with a goat they will attach to other animals. Its not the same as having another goat around mind you but at least its a friend... Vyxin has no desire to be friends with the other critters here. I hope he warms up to the new geese.:fl:fl

You know I feel guilty about only having one duck. Normally I wouldn't have just one, but she sat alone for 3wks in the back parking lot of one of our feed stores (not the one with the goose) She wasn't even near the other animals & we had to get her out of there. She bonded immediately with my oldest brahma & free ranges the yard, so it seemed ok, but I still feel guilty about it.

If she's happy, healthy and active dont feel bad. She's better off with you than where she was! :hugs

You rescued her and got her out of a bad situation. She would definitely be happier with another duck, but anything is better than being abandoned in a parking lot.

This seems like a good excuse to get another duck to me :p You just HAD to get another duck, no way around it :lau You could get a nice quiet drake that needs a home, or a muscovy :D

I'm not an enabler or anything
