Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

Thinking about that rabbit I had as a kid. . omg the poor thing. It probably hated me :lau
I used to put it on a leash and collar drag it around. Until one day it got spooked by something and wrapped around a tree and nearly strangled. A rabbit in distress has got to be one of the most horrifying sounds on earth.
And being a child. . I didn't even know they could make noise so talk about frightening.
I carried it home crying cause somehow I still thought it was going to die. :gigIt was fine. .but that was the end of the leash and collar.
I told my grandpa about it and one day he brought me an old shopping cart from the grocery store where my grandma worked.:)
I had no clue why I would want that silly thing until my dad fitted it with hardware cloth and made it where I could take my bunny for walks again :lau:lau:lau
Dear God. . no wonder I never had any friends :lau

My parents are really not pet people. They like animals ok. . just don't want the hassle of keeping any. And certainly not in the house.
I don't know where I got the animal crazy gene. No-one on either side of my family really has any pets. :idunno
My parents are the same. My dad has cows but doesn't consider them pets. So they dont count.:D
My siblings have the usual cat and dog.. and my oldest brothers girls have chickens and ducks but im the official "crazy critter peep" in my family!:lau

I begged my parents for a year before they relented and let me get a Chihuahua puppy. They let me have fish tanks, and mice. The hamsters always seemed to get wet tail and die. I did have a parakeet once. They always said, When you move into your own place, you can have all the pets you want. Hubby is not up for that, but he has been pretty tolerant over the years. I have had an amazing array of pets! From Chameleons to a Monkey.

Lol. . my parents used to say the same exact thing to me. I've never really kept any exotic pets. I always wanted ducks but never figured I would be able to have them. Now I've got 19 of them. . . :lau

The pet talk reminds me... During one of my absences, Faith decided that she'd like a cockatiel once we've moved and are settled (she did do some research, so the species isn't a totally random choice). Anyone here know anything about cockatiels?
I do.... they need human interaction and or a buddy. Mom raised em. adopted a poor fellow from the neighbors.... Had been left in his cage with a cover over it most of his lifre. He had pulled all his feathers out out of boredom. To the point they would never come back... but he was sweet and thrived on attention. I think he was around twenty when mom got him so he passed soon after.
