Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

I eat eggs. I even eat the occasional chicken. It's been one of the most difficult decisions I've had to make. I would like any hen that wants to, to be able to sit and hatch. Of course, 50% of the clutch are likely to be roosters. I can only house so many chickens and more than two males per group tend to cause problems in the long term.
I limit the number of eggs in a clutch but even then and with predation, the population grows.

I don't mind eating eggs...I just don't like them that much.... That often.
I would eat my chickens but I don't think I could get past the black meat..... If I had normal chickens I'd be all over it.
I might pick some normal chickens up this spring.

Come Spring all the hens want to sit. It's a nightmare.:he
With two I have to take their eggs away because they are baby killers.

Oh, I wasn’t planning on leaving the Pond! :hugs (But it’s nice to know I’d be missed. :)) I’ll just have more time between Christmas and spring to read other posts and get myself in trouble by answering some. ;)
"Oh, what a relief it is", just like Alka Selzer :D

No doubt.. it gets that way in late spring, early summer for me.:lau
Chick killers are NOT good! :barnie
They can't help it. Strangely both are very good sitters, they get up every day to wash, eat and drink. They both defend their nests well and even more importantly, set their clutches in the coops. But, when the chicks arrive they throw them around and peck them to death.:(

Oh dear.. could you pull the chicks and brood them in a brooder? Or is it more of a let nature take its course thing?
