Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

You wont believe the night I’ve had! I have a crazy neighbor who lives down at the bottom of my street (not on my actual road but the road x mine) He’s apparently off his meds & decided that no one in my culdesac is allowed to put trash cans at the bottom of our easement road anymore because he can see them from his kitchen. We have to leave them at the bottom of our road because its the only way waste management will take them. In his deluded mind he’s decided that he owns our easement. (Like I said, crazy.) Incidentally, we have a new neighbor in the culdesac who leaves his cans down the street all week because they don't know any better. So anyway, a couple days ago Crazy Neighbor waits till he see's me leave then drags the new neighbors cans up my hill & puts them in front of my house. My long time, good neighbor put a note on the cans letting the new neighbor know they have to take their cans home after trash day... No big.

Well tonights trash night & we all drag our cans down the road. Crazy Neighbor waits till he see's DH leave & immediately starts dragging everybodys cans up in front of my house. So I go out there & I try to talk to him & he smells like alcohol, is irrational & freaking screaming at me. I was telling him that I understand he's frustrated & he should just explain to the new neighbor that's there's a problem, but he kept screaming at me & wouldnt listen & so I started getting pissed because he's being a huge bully, threatening me, trespassing & touching my property. I say, "John those are MY cans that I pay for, you need to stop touching them. If you keep dragging them up here, I'm gonna keep dragging them back down. I've got all night & don't think for a second I wont freaking do it." So for 10+mins we proceed to drag the trash up & down the road. The whole time we're screaming at each other & he’s threatening me that I’m in trouble & I need to back down. Blah! Blah! Blah!. I'd let him get one can all the way up the hill (because I wasn't gonna wrestle him for them) & when he'd go down for another I'd take one back down. He was screaming accusations at me & sweating & huffing & puffing up & down my road & I swear to God I was hoping he'd have a heart attack & drop freaking dead right in front of me, but no such luck.

So I finally call my good neighbor & say I’m dealing with a crazy person, I need you out here. When he comes out he says, "Oh! This guy! This guys ****ing crazy! He threatened me with physical violence yesterday, just leave the cans"... but I cant, because I don't do bully's, EVER. In the meantime Crazy Neighbor is still screaming threats & accusations & pointing out houses that he's reported to county code enforcement because he has a friend in the department & can get people in trouble & he's gonna call them on me & all the other neighbors. Then he says he's calling the Sheriff & I tell him, “Good! Please do so that I don't have to.”

At this point DH starts driving up the road & he see's Crazy Neighbor in the middle of the street with someones trashcan & has no idea that he's drunk & that its all hitting the fan. He tries to reason with him, but theres nothing doing & then he sees me in the process of dragging a can down the road. He knows instantly that if I'm out there with Crazy Neighbor, in the dark, that there's a problem. Crazy is yelling that we've "abused our privileges" on his easement (not his) & that DH needs to get his wife under control. Crazy Neighbor then charges over to me & starts trying to yank my trash can out of my hand. I wouldn't let go of it & he started like he was gonna come at me, but I stood my ground. Luckily we were in DH's blind spot & he couldn't see what was going on or the chit REALLY would have hit the fan. Crazy Neighbor must've realized that I wasn't letting go & that if he hit me he'd be going to jail, so at that point he let go & walked back to the car to start yelling at DH again.

He eventually walked away screaming that he was calling the city & calling the Sherriff & that we were in trouble & I was screaming, “Do it! Call them! Please! Call them right now!” Well 3hrs later & theres still no Sherriff, but I have no doubt he will call the city & try to file complaints because that’s the p*ssy way of exacting his revenge on a neighbor whos never been anything but nice to him. He knows darn well we always pull our trash cans up as soon as they’re dumped, but he doesn’t care. He’s truly acting like a raging lunatic.

I know I can pretty much kiss our beautiful, beloved rooster goodbye now & with the VND quarantine in the next county over theres no one who will be willing to rehome him. To say that my kids are devastated & I mean DEVESTATED would be an extreme understatement. :hit Sorry this is so long.
:barnie and so sorry about the possible rooster issues.... :hugs

Morning Pond,
Week one of Camp is almost done. We have 52 senior high campers and about a dozen staff members. It’s been a good week, but I’m beat. We have a husband and wife on staff that will be staying at my house on the weekends between Camp weeks. Yesterday I told them that they’ve been at my house enough times that I’m going to treat them like family and they can fend for themselves. He said, “Does that mean we should be cooking for you, too?” I told him I certainly wouldn’t turn that down.

I’ve been trying to keep up with the Pond all week, but have been too tired and busy to respond. Today, I have to.

First of all, Perchie I’m glad you’re doing well.

Secondly... Room - do not EVER engage with that nut case again. Not ever. Bullies are one thing. Annoying, even infuriating, but somewhat predictable. Crazy is a whole ‘nother issue. Crazy is neither predictable or rational. Next time just call law enforcement. Don’t make me use my Mom Voice on you...

(Speaking of Mom Voice, I may be using it a lot next week. My kitchen helpers are 4 10th grade boys and a 9th grade boy. The older ones are quite the characters. It should be fun)

Sounds crazy. And crazy busy. Thanks for the update.

Not a bad boost for $2000.
Dylan sold it to me for what he paid.
After he did added some stuff to it.
It's pretty loaded with extras.
However it needs a little work
Some wiring and a couple Rivets need replaced but nothing I can't handle.
He just didn't $26k on a new boat.

Is that your place???

So clean! And THAT LAWN!!! :th

It is crazy busy, but I love it. I started coming to this camp when I was 6, started counseling when I was 15 (so for a few years I’d be a camper for a week, then counsel for two - after I graduated, I counseled all 3 weeks), counseled until I had my first kid (he was born the day before camp started that year - it’s the only year I haven’t been involved one way or another), took over registrations and cabin assignments the next year after my mother in law quit doing that job (I still do that job) and started cooking.... 12 years ago? Maybe 13.

Instead of living on a wing and a prayer, I’m living on caffeine and a prayer. After camp, I’m home for 4 days, then we’re heading north. I’ll have a week of riding in the pickup to sleep and rest up for my next adventure.

How does the farm stuff get done with the camp and then alaska?

Thanks. I did read these some time ago when I was trying to work out what had gone on.
I dug up a lot of stuff from the old site and then wondered where some of those people went and why.
There wasn't an article section then it seems so the information tended to be in the threads. There were some incredibly knowledgeable contributors and the site was more chicken focused and less like Facebook.
I've collected a number of pages but this is an example.
https://web.archive.org/web/20051214140829/http://www.backyardchickens.com/index.html

With a bit of research you can still access quite a few of the old threads which make interesting reading.
At some point, I think it was before the global awarding of badges in 2017 there seemed to have been a change in site direction. I assume as the site grew, the staff realised that the chat threads attracted a lot of people and of course, with a site this size, sponsors are interested as are companies wishing to advertise.
It's interesting stuff. Well, it is to me.

So, looking at the time line and the change in both the presentation of the site and the establishment of the sites ethos it seem naturally enough that badges were given out to people who were loyal to the site and supported the sites aims, which were and are to grow into the biggest 'chicken' site on the net, provide a family oriented environment and to help Nifty's self proclaimed mission to have a chicken in every back yard.
I think I first came across the site in 2009. I was looking for some information on breeds because a friend had decided to keep chickens and I had volunteered to help mainly by building the coop and helping to choose the starter pair.

Oh Room.... you should have called the sherif and not tried to deal with him yourself.... We have stuff like this happin on the mountain where I live... but people pull guns.... I am glad your husband didnt see as well.

Someone off his meds and on alcahol is un reasonable and almost un restrainable as well they are working off dilusion and rage.... Scary stuff.

Please Please dont deal with him yourself if there is a next time. Call the Sherrifs office and file a report. Tell them exactly what happen and at what time it started and ended. Then they will have a report on file. If this happens again they will be johnny on the spot to "settle" things.

If you cant find a home for your roo you can park him with me for a while send a girlfriend for him if you can... There have been no chickens at my place for more than four years... The old coop is big enough for four or five chickens with out letting them out. Id just have to make a couple of improvements like new shade cover.... But its mountain lion secure.

Thank you guys for listening & for your concern. :hugsThank you especially Deb! :hit :hugs

I started with the site in 2010 just after a format change and some additions of servers. We were still writing in BBC code.

I think nifty joined just before that as a manager...? I have seen the tv interview of him. Nice guy. good with people. The site went through a major Moderator over load at one point. Since i signed on there have been to platform changes first notible change was going from BBC code to WSYG.... but some kept the option of bbc because they were more comfortable.

Then we went through a whole move from server farm to server farm Code changes as well as as layout and organizational changes. The pictures kind of made it over but not really... I am glad I have everything on my computer.

The moderator overload settled and I could see it as a sign of maturity within the company. Yay.
