Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

Hello, Pond!
I am home for a day, off again tomorrow for our 3rd week at Camp. I'll have 43 primary week campers (going into grades 2-5) to feed this week, along with a dozen or so staff. This is the easiest week. For one thing, I've had two weeks' practice, and they don't eat as much so I don't have to cook as much.

So, a month ago I mentioned that one of my chickens disappeared and I wasn't sure if she was nesting or got eaten. She showed up on Thurs. with 4 little fuzzballs in tow, about a week old. (That's my estimate, anyway, since they already have the beginnings of wing feathers.) I don't know where they spend Thursday night, but yesterday when I got home, I made little steps for them so they could get into the coop. She had them in there last night. I love seeing her with them, and how the rest of the flock just does their thing around them. No fighting or picking or any other thing.

Time to get ready for next week. Just thought I'd check in. (I read Pond posts every night and think of you all, just don't have the time or oomph to respond.)
Cooking for 50 ish! There's got to be a bit left over for me.:p
Do you know where mum hatched the chicks? It's great when mum just marches them home and into the coop. Hi, i've been gone a bit. Meet your new brother and sisters.

So I three a handful of call duck eggs in the Brinsea just to check fertility.
The pair of calls I just bought are a breeding pair. But I cannot tell her eggs from the other two. So I have no idea which are hers and my other two girls don't want anything to do with the new Drake. So outta then eggs I only see two with veins and one with a shadow that looks like it's starting. One of the eggs that is developing is kinda big to be a call duck egg.
But really small to be a KC. So I hope it's a call egg. If be thrilled if I even got two to finish.
Anyone who has hatched call eggs.... Can you tell me what humidity you run them at?
The ACs I just hatched I ran dry till lockdown as humidity was steady at 40......

We've had some beautiful weather lately... But really need some rain. Dang Forest around here are a tinderbox. And I have a huge burn pile I need to deal with. Cleaned up the meth heads yard.... Snow had broken several large branched off the big white pines in his yard.
Left a huge pile of dead pine branches.
Yeah I know a fire waiting to happen... Would be great if they could catch fire and burn the place down.... But Dave's garage is too close for comfort so I cleaned it up....

I think we can arrange left overs for you. Especially this week. Those little ones don’t eat much. It’s always an adjustment after cooking for 50+ Senior and Junior high kids. (Plus staff, we fed about 65 both weeks.)

I have no idea where she hatched those babies. I’m guessing in the pole barn somewhere, because that’s where she would sprint off to, to lay her eggs when I would let them out. A couple of times I tried to see where she went, but lost her. (I try not to follow too closely. When they’re on to me, they just wander aimlessly around until I go away.) I poked around in the pole barn a few times, but it’s full of large, round hay bales and I couldn’t get in very far. Anyway, it is fun to watch that play out as Nature intended. She managed to hatch and integrate those babies all without my “help”.

I thought it looked like a good mother in law home for the lake..... When she's sleeping you untie it and shove it out into the middle of the lake.....

Well heck yeah...... And for a small fee I'll drill a hole in the pontoons

I do a long distance welfare call to my mother everyday reminding her to eat. DH came in the other day while she was on the phone & yelled, “HI DEE DEE! I LOVE YOU! COME VISIT!” I shot him the look of death.
DM: What did he say?
Me: He said hi!
DM: Is that all he said?
Me: He said he loves you.
DM: Is that alllllll?
Me: He said to come visit, but I’m not telling you about that part.

...Then she called me a word I can’t repeat here. We have an odd relationship.
