long few days. not used to all the noise. poor chooks not happy. Loggers should finish up today (for now, will return to get into the wet areas when the ground refreezes). Stacks of logs in several places. The guys have done a great job keeping the mess and ground damage to a minimum while really moving quickly. The log stacks will remain for a week or two as the pulp mills are backed up right now. No problem. With the toilet paper still in short supply the price for the pulp wood is expected to continue to increase for now anyway.

Looking more like a logging camp than a homestead

I'm glad they're finishing up today. I've got lots of my own work I need to get done outside before I start back to work for the census on Tuesday.

EVERYONE PLEASE STAY SAFE THIS HOLIDAY WEEKEND! :hugs

Hahaha! That's only one pile of several pulp wood. Only one pile of "usable" hardwood so far. The mills are only accepting certain species right now. They primarily want Jack Pine for tissue papers and furniture hardwoods at the moment. They are literally backlogged on all the other stuff because of all the blowdown from our huge storm last year along with all the other big storms all over in the past year.

We have quite a few log trucks on the main north-south highway a couple miles from here, all heading north to a pulp mill not far into PA. Been like that as long as I remember here.

Hope it stays that way!!! We had lost a couple huge paper mills (and jobs) up here in recent years because they couldn't compete (or the parent companies were buying instead) the cheaper paper products coming from China. That's part of the reason our domestic mills are struggling to get caught up. Thanks to China and our love fest with them of the past several years there just aren't as many American mills as there were.
