Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

Had to try something new........
We have 6 veteran layers and another 3 who should be laying by now, born this past Spring.
Haven't gotten an egg in over 2 months
Both coops have almost as many feathers as bedding, hardest & longest molt I've ever seen.'
I haven't fed "layer/breeder" feed for years; been feeding "flock balancer", instead. For one, the flock balancer is 20% protein, while the layer/breeder is only 16%. And, the flock balancer is cheaper. I've always gotten decent egg production on the flock balancer.
Don't really expect any changes going from one feed to the other, but I have to try something. Wrong time of year to be getting chicks to replace freeloaders.

Have you checked them for parasites? Lice or mites?

Patience, Ken - yeah, I know, easy to say. It will take a bit, but the old girls will resume laying, and the pullets will start. The way you are feeding is the way to go in my opinion.

I can understand the two oldest hens not laying; they're probably 4+ years old. But the other 4 are only in their second & third laying season.

I just might go back to the RSLs come Spring. Of all the breeds I've tried, they've been the most dependable.

Man.

As soon as lunch was over kid 3 kept asking kid 4, "done your math yet? Done your math?" (Come h..l or high water, kids HAVE to do math every day... other stuff can slide on occasion) when kid 4 had finally finished math, kid 3 drug kid 4 and 5 out to watch him chainsaw, and then help haul wood up to the house... chop and stack.

He was all "we gotta, not enough wood yet, have you seen our wood stack?"
