Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

So, I discovered something I think is interesting today. I saw some appleyard ducklings on FB this afternoon and I couldn't pin why they looks so familiar for a minute, then I realized I currently have a "duplicate" in the brooder. I hatched a few out last year too, only kept one and she died a few months back so I've got no good adult pics.

Mine happen to be khaki/Ancona mixes that have been either bred back to khaki or Ancona it bred back to themselves. (as is currently the case)

And she did great in those gorgeous blue feathers on the wings.
Huh.....

Fascinating... if my mind actually grasped all that color genetics stuff... I would understand why that happened

Good Evening, Pond!
Came home from school today to find the hen that was perpetually broody last summer, pancaked in the nest box, looking (as DH describes it) PO’ed with the world. My McMurray chicks are due in 3 1/2 weeks. What do you think - too long to wait to put babies under her? Maybe see if I can get a few babies from our local farm TSC-type store for her?

Completely depends on the broody.

Ponders good morning one and all!

The temperature is 61 and mostly cloudy.

I have a Barred Rock that sits on the nest all day.

She is puffed up like a toad and grumbles at me when I take the eggs.

I DO NOT have a rooster.

Have a great day!
