Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

We have eagles here - we have a nest less than a mile from our place - but I don’t know that I’ve ever lost a chicken to one. Red tail hawks are the biggest aerial threat to my birds. Mink are the worst land predators, mainly because they can get in through such small spaces and kill so many at a time. Raccoons and skunks are next on the list for me. And of course we get the occasional coyote raid that wipes them all out at once.
How do the coyotes get in?

I have heard some coyotes the last few days... I haven't ever had a coyote loss... but I still have poultry in tractors... and my white tractor isn't all that secure....

This sounds like a pond that is always the right temp. I am like a chicken, I don't swim well but enjoy getting my feet wet. I'm a gamer mostly. The chickens get me out of my house and moving around.

I have bad arthritis in my back and hips with some other big issues. Chickens are good for me.

I crochet, cook, bake and garden. Unfortunately this years garden flopped due to my younger dog plucking the seedlings out.

I love chatting and learning about things. Especially chickens.
Howdy and welcome!

I had been down sizing rather significantly over these last few years, as my kinds grow up and leave me.... but this summer I decided (after a bear whiped out most of my poultry) that I would get back into poultry... and *I* would take over the poultry chores (instead of the kids) to get myself to move more....

I too have arthritis.. but in my hands.

I garden... but not as much these last few years since my garden fence collapsed.

This summer was mostly just the flower garden by the front door.. and a few veggies in pots.

Hello Pond!

I hope you all have a safe and wonderful Labor Day. We’re staying home. I’m hoping to finish painting the deck and get a handle on my laundry before I go back to school tomorrow. I also have garden produce to deal with. So much to do, I don’t even know how I have time to go to work!
I had a bunch of outside work planned... but it is raining and foggy.

My chickens primarily free range, and that’s when the coyotes get them. The other predators - mink, skunks and coons - have always gotten them while they’ve been locked up.
