Dont worry, batches of 10 is ok by me. Only thing is, i can only get some chicks when DW's pal buys them (for her school) as they only sell in batches of 100 minimum - its a bummer, but what to do...

This is an example of what I'm up against. Layers feed - 16% protein, growers - 15% - I mean, really? It sure is a funny old place

its sitting in the shade most of the time but it never had gotten hot. Lukewarm at most. I also prpvide small tubs of water in other locations. Chickens don't care of it is warm or cold anyways. Given half a chance mine will drink out of a mud puddle that has been sitting in the sun and is hot over drinking what I provide them anyways.

Oh and I was worried about the water system freezing, so far it got down to 19 last night and no problems yet. It'll freeze eventually and I'll have to deal but I'm surprised so far.
