Many do for varying reasons. Some think they are pretty. Some like to eat them.
Flock protectors and breeders, are my reasons.
But why is it that the males are usually the prettiest? Look at mandarin ducks, for example... and turkeys!

ya'll are just drawn to co.......er roosters.....I agree.....every bird I pick out that I really really like....is a male! lol

Though it's kinda funny - we had a couple of Serama roo's that when they first learned, crowed with their beaks shut. They were much quieter - we called them "chicken ventriloquists."
