I lost birds to hawks and vultures in TN. Finally had to stop free ranging. Even the foxes started taking chickens during the day.Oh okI am wanting to do a bush variety. I am not really fond of the ones that need something to climb on. I am wanting more self supporting plants.
I have a pair of Hawks that live close by. I haven't had any issues with them yet though.
I don't have enough to feed us, let alone trade. I eat the stuff before it gets to the house.Wish we were closer...I'd trade ya goat milk for veggies!

I wasn't able to have one last year. I was heartbroken. I love being able to collect and eat veggies that I planted.All this garden talk is making me jealous.
Didn't get one put in this year, just had too many things come up. Hoping we get one in next year.
That is one reason I built the run so large, so I wouldn't have to free range. I don't mind the Hawks because they take care of the snakes, which I have seen multiple times. I just don't want them messing with my chickens or ducks. I have seen one fox, and that was about six months ago. I have never seen it again.

I only had one livestock dog, and he could not be everywhere. Never lost a goat to predators though, and we had coyotes.
The foxes were breeding in our back yard! I was walking along one day and there was a fox kit, sitting on a stump in broad daylight! I think they are pretty, but not in my yard, eating my chickens! I started packing my gun at all times.
