California comfort food.... thats hard to nail down. I have a southern back ground... Poor White farmers... made use of everything. Adapted to what was available... We arent ethnic... Both sides of the family came from England and a smidge of German a very very long time ago...

I grew up liking what we had.... a hodge podge of southern and mexican... Slabs of meat when we could get it...

Californias main influence is Mexican... But Baja Mexican is different from Tex mex. Baja Mexioco and the pacific side of Mexico is much like the Carribean....

Lots of Fish and Rock lobsters Pork, Beef, Lamb and Goat and Mangos and papayas and Avocados... and Chocolate... and Corn....

Innards and outards and everything in between. I never had Chitlins but I have had the Mexican Version called Tripas....

Family comfort food is a big pot of pinto Beans with a hamhock... Or Lima Beans and ham.... Or Blackeyed Peas with snaps and Salt pork.... Or Fried okra with fried tenderized round steak...

Sometime Try Refried beans with some Chorizo added....

I got on there once for chicken stuff, and other than that, I leave it well enough alone. There are crazies there.


If they're anything like the BYC Ameraucana groups, I suspect anyone that doesn't live for arguments would be best off staying far far away.

I scored a 55 gallon drum barbecue grill for $25 today. Welded cart, polymer wheels, welded steel bar grates. Big enough for a 50ish lb feeder pig...

And a jumbo wire dog crate curb surfing. Yahoo!
