Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

DH & I got all the straw out of the coop yesterday, got it completely scrubbed down :sick & got the sand in it. It looks amazing in there, like a giant zen garden. If the birds weren't therapeutic enough on their own, now I can take my DD's mini rake out there & comb soothing designs in the sand.
when i get set up again I will use sand.... I can gather it myself... Hitch my horse to the big tractor tire and drag the road... It will fill up with about a yard of sand.

I plan on using it in nest boxes and the brooder.

Let us know how the sand works for you. I've read good and bad about sand. A few here use it.

Blood Sweat and Tears, i think it's fitting for what you did today. :D

I will. I'm thinking that because this is desert southwest climate I shouldn't have to worry about the issues with cold & wet other people have complained about. If it doesn't work, then I'll try, try again, but for now it sure looks pretty. Did I mention the birds are terrified of it? Nobody wanted to go to bed last night. It was getting dark & they were getting desperate to go in. They were going to great lengths not to touch it. Most were flying from ladders to roosts to avoid it, one girl ran across it like it was hot coals. It was hysterical! :lau Mako wouldn't go in at all. She ended up missing the auto door. I had to go in there, open it up for her & call her in. I kept telling them it was only sand & that they love sand, but they weren't buying any of it & this morning some of them are still leery.

That's hilarious! Birds are so funny about change.

Yep, you're even dryer than I am. If it works for me, it should work for you too. I did put sand in the bottom of the nesting boxes, then topped it with some orchard grass that I use for the guinea pigs & bunny. I swirled it around & put some fake eggs in there, so hopefully they wont protest & go laying them behind the trash cans.
