Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

View attachment 1134172 Okay, so the speckled sussex with the rock solid crop...she's still with us, miraculously. I still think there is a blockage somewhere, but we brought her in to put her on a very soft food diet (yogurt, runny scrambled egg, olive oil, almond milk/oatmeal, Nutri Drench) thinking we might be able to get something to go through. She did one regular looking poop last night and her comb and wattles are still red, which are good. The odd thing is how her crop, that is now more soft than it was, really feels full of little rocks (chicken food would have long ago decomposed). I am wondering if her blockage began as a small problem, so she just kept ingesting little rocks like normal, but over time they just couldn't pass through any more.
Without some sort of surgical intervention, I don't forsee much hope for her - unless whatever is causing the blockage is something that will gradually decompose.
I guess I am wondering if we should keep limping her along - the poor thing is very thin - or when/if we should put her down. I know it's ultimately my decision, just give me an "If I were you" thought or two.

If she is eating well...I would give her a full week to recover and see how she does.

If she isn't eating well, then I would ax her.

:hugs

I had no idea that was a book title...lol

Yep!

There's a sequel, Fowl Weather, and then one that revolves around his cats instead of his birds called Kitty Cornered.

We might be doing a California road trip this Christmas vacation (I tried to nudge us all the way to Alburqueque (which I can never spell) 'cause of Friday and a good friend of mine from h2g2 who's been stuck in a care facility there for ages, but alas...) I know @casportpony is in Gilroy, @orrpeople is in Redding (though Tom's wanting to avoid crossing mountains far enough north to worry about snow...), and @perchie.girl is outside San Diego, but I could've sworn that there was someone else near San Diego... Any other pondites either along the coast or pretty darn southern? Tom's thinking of swinging over to Vegas, because we have friends there, and I figure, if we do that, we might as well check out Death Valley, as mid/late December is probably a pretty good time for that... Where would be the best place to go back to the coast from there? Best being extremely unlikely to have to worry about snow on the road (I keep saying we could either actually get chains this year, or just go down 101 and up 1, or vice versa...)? I do have h2g2 friends in Costa Mesa and Koreatown in Hollywood.
Yeah, depends on our winter this year with the passes, but it'd be great to meet you!

Even if not this trip, I'm sure we'll head towards Redding at some point--I'll just have to go along on one of Tom's trips to Bethel. Definitely not in the summer though--it'd cost nearly half of what we paid for the car last year to have functioning AC. I've lived a summer in Redding with no vehicular AC. Not doing it ever again! (What made it even more fun was that Tom and I lived on Olive, near the planetarium, and non-driving me worked at KMart--usually starting the day's work at 4pm. My bus transfer point had no shade (palm trees do not count!)... *realizes that probably no one but orr knows any of those locations...)

So, I'm turning 50 this month - and friends wanted a big party. I said, "How about give me a full morning to help me build a chicken coop?"
I have sneaking suspicion the plan may be to cart me off to a mental hospital instead...
funny how when you ask for the things you really need and want they roll their eyes and get you sox.... :th
