Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

The pond wasn't drained. But I am! (hmmm, I better get a drink ;))

Congrats on the fair! Great job!! Love your cochins. Of course, I am partial to the breed.

Hubby went to the pistol competition without me, I decided to stay home and finish cleaning up the yard and tearing out my old coops. It was hot out there, but the shade helped, and I took breaks throughout the day. So now its time for cookies and a cocktail. :)

Hope everyone had or is having a great day.

COOKIES??

I also killed a little snake today. I know we have some snake lovers, and I let it be yesterday (ok, I lost it yesterday after getting a small glimpse of it) but if someone can tell me what kind it is, and what it may or may not do to my chickens, if I see any others, I may spare them.

Was only 18-20 inches long, about as big around as my finger.

Not sure exactly the type but by the head it is not poisionus. They most likely eat bugs, lizzards, MICE. Possibly eggs as they get bigger, and any snake large enough might take young chicks but not likely to bother adults. Personally I would prefer the snake to the mice. :)

I prefer anything over mice. But I don't think this one was even big enough to eat a mouse. I probably should have left it alone, but anything near my chickens just feels like a threat.

Will look that one up, thanks.

Poor little thing! I can't tell unless I get a good look at the head. Doesn't look poisonous. There so many snakes, it could be an adult in some species.

RE: Eggs we eat I wash lightly with an antibacterial soap, rinse in cool water and refrigerate.

I took several pics, but went thru them and don't have a better one of the head. I took that one outside, after I carried it out. I took the others right afterward, and still didn't want to get too close. :/

I should have just relocated it, I do feel bad, but I've still got some really small chicks out there. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I did look up hog nose snakes, but didn't get a close enough look at this one's head. I tossed it, but will see if its still out there tomorrow and get a better look.
