Good morning Ponders! Who's getting snow?
I'm kinda enjoying still being married, but I'll take your suggestions under advisement.![]()
just trying to help
Sounds like a good plan. What about the Delaware eggs?
I've recently lost 3 golden comets, to predators we presume, so I need to replace my free-rangers.
Who has recommendations on best free-range, self sufficient birds?
ee's, mutts
Well I'm torn currently. I want to order some goslings from Sandhill to add to my Roman Tufted flock since they should be better quality, but I also want a particular breed of chick they have. You can't mix and match and I can't afford to place two orders with them and meet the minimum numbers for shipping.
Getting the chicks would be cheaper, but I really do want those goslings. The goslings are more expensive, but I already have their set up. I'd have to build a new coop if I went with the chicks so they would cost me more in the long run. However, I do already have the geese, and I don't have this breed of chicken and would like to have them. But, I would have no use for the other assorted 18 chicks I'd have to buy so I'd be spending money on birds I don't really want and would have to hope I could sell them off.
I can't decide, darn it! And I want to mail my order out tomorrow whichever way I decide.
is there anyone else in your area tat just wants pretty birds and would split cost?
Nah, I'm eyeballing the Erminettes. But that begs the question, do I really need another breed that needs a ton of work? The ACs are enough work, lol. Still, they are gorgeous and I'm in love.
erminettes are so pretty!
This morning was no fun... woke up to Crash trying to eat Peg...
oh no!, bad crash!

Same here! But right now it's gross. Kinda snow kinda wet/foggy/rain. But not sleet, just wet n gross. Little snow on the ground. I'd like to see the white fluffy stuff lol
oh WV, I meant to comment about your free ranging birds.......
if you aren't looking for friendly, or pretty......white leghorns could be the answer for you. Heck, I'd imagine any of the leghorns would work...
Thanks! I've always wondered if white birds stand out more to flying predators. Maybe browns would be a better option.
i agree on this i had a brown leghorn that would roost 40'+ in a tree behind my shed
but laid eggs in the coop
she was super fast and a great lookout for the other birds, better than my rooster at the time
Now that's awesome! I'll look for some.

I have whites in a coop run.........and now I have some crosses with a EE roo.........curious to see how they turn out, color wise, and form wise.....
I have heard the white birds are actually safe cause hawks and that usually go for prey that looks like their natural prey. So they may stand out but they're not prey to them.
Hawk, as all predator, when hunting for a flock of prey items, try to sort an individual from the flock, and a white pigeon among lots of gray, black, brown is like a beacon to zoom on, for the predator!
