Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

Times sure have changed. I used to ride horses all summer up in the high sierra (Dad worked on a high elevation hydro project)... alone...at age 9! I remember on more than one occasion coming home bloodied by some incident to my mom saying,"well, wash up! And clean the counter when you're finished!"
Oh yeah.... we used to swap horses without getting off... or stand on the saddle to steal apples off the neighbors tree.... Horses knew they would get the eensy ones.... LOL.

Lost a bunch of skin off my back on my first fall. Saddle had slipped under the horse. He went home I walked...

Shoot, now days that's child endangerment and she'd go to jail... Which is why we live in the woods and homeschool! Ours play outside, work hard when needed, eat good and sleep well! Lol

Haha! Yep! Horse stories for days!! I got thrown into a freshly dug mountain of dirt - head first - in the cemetery! There's probably still some dirt in my ears from that one!

My kids used to get so mad when I'd say, "Go out and scar up those knees! You guys don't have enough scars for telling any good stories when you're old!"

Yeah, we are up in the very top of the valley that extends all the way from Bakersfield to us. So, all kinds of smoke and heat get trapped here. Thankfully this year hasn't been too terrible, a little haze - no worse than big city air quality - but one year (2008) it seemed like everything was on fire and the smoke was so thick it made it hard to see. We were training for some crazy long run and I had to do most of it indoors, on a treadmill.:sick Fun times.
Yeah with my asthma and COPD.... I'd die.
Although I have to admit... As bad as my lungs are sometimes they breathe like a regular Hoover vacuum....... But smoke would surely set them off into a spasm attack.

Whew, okay good. I'm a loooooong way from 13! Thanks, I'll sure be glad when it's over.

I must have just been fishing in the wrong spots. Of course, I was mainly going for catfish and bass. Now I'm craving fresh fish. :drool
I have to admit I've tried catfish every way I can imagine and just can't seem to like it at all.... But I keep trying.
Even soaking it overnight in buttermilk hasn't helped me..... Good thing I like all other fish I've tried......I usually order fish when I go out to eat.

Spent my life at the barn... from the age of about thirteen.... the boarding stable was within walking distance. Kept me out of trouble.... but I guess what my mother didn't know didn't hurt her.

My first car was a stick at sixteen years old I paid for half... Four hundred for a Corvair Spider.... Dad was influential in the choice.... LOL.

That was in 1970... He taught me how to change a tire, change a serpentine fan belt, and change the oil. Also how to drive a stick on a transmission that had almost a one foot Throw....

He taught me how to slide into a turn and recover... and how to push start, and jump start... and how to move the car using only the starter motor.

I learned how to throw it sideways to stop too... He didnt teach me that one.... saved my life

when I was seventeen my grandma declaired that Ralph Nader deemed the Corvair was dangerous. She and grandpa bought me a brand new Pinto... Wish I had kept the Corvair.
