Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

Haha, yep! :) Adjunct English prof and private music teacher. Oh, and I'm a shady parking lot chicken dealer on the side!! (Just sold three to someone who met me at a Taco Bell...that's gotta be illegal in some state!)
That's awesome!!!! :clap
:lau I can see it now...Step over to the trunk... I'VE got the goods in there!

Actually, no. From what the investigator from the insurance company figured out, (it burned to the ground so there wasn't much to work with) it was a power strip that was plugged into an outlet and sitting on the floor. He said that sometimes the cheaper ones short out and because they're plastic it's like pouring a gallon of gas on the floor and throwing in a lit match. So, apparently we had a flaming piece of plastic sitting on our carpeted floor, next to the wood-paneled wall. We were all asleep in the second story of our house at the time. By the time we all got out (three of five of us went out a window) the room the fire started in was fully engulfed. We had to drive to my mom's (about 3 miles by road, 1 1/2 as the crow flies) to call 911. When we came around the corner from our place to her road, we could see the glow. I give the fire dept. credit, though. We are 20 miles from town, the fire was in the middle of the night, and they were on scene in 27 minutes. I knew several of them from my years on the ambulance service in that town. Anyway, I think it was just the idea of anything that causes flame in our home wasn't appealing to him. (Although I do have a gas stove and oven) He even for the longest time would get agitated when I would have candles burning.

Thank you. At the time, it was terrifying to say the least. It's weird. It felt like it took forever to get us all out, although it was probably less than 2 minutes, and at the same time it all happened so fast... We lost everything we had, but in a way it was a blessing. It definitely reset our values. Since then, we've all had the philosophy that "stuff is stuff" and it's the people in our lives that count. My 3 sons have a bond that many siblings don't. And the kindness and generosity of our community... after 13 years, I can't begin to express our gratitude.

Sigh... :barnie

That face!!!:love
I can't begin to imagine how terrifying that must have been. I'm glad you all were safe! It's wonderful the boys have bonded from it and the community was there to help. :hugs

Yes, especially the first couple weeks the moms will hide the kids and go off to graze. As the kids get older, bigger, stronger and better able to keep up with the moms and flee from danger they'll start going with the moms more. Kind of the same thing that deer do with fawns.
awesome survival skill.... and I did not know this.... I just thought my cousin was special...

Do you suppose she was wearing a trench coat, too? I sincerely hope so. Even if she wasn't, I have decided that's how it went down. And the hat. You know the one...

Oh yes I know the one...big dark sun glasses, that bright red lipstick...lol

Yes! All that! I can just see it...

I was trying to find a pic, just can't find " that" one..lol

:lau :lau :lau

awesome.... My son is graduating college in December... BA in Geology Probably the first Bachelor of ARts in Geology in many years.... LOL. Minor is English. He has Professor in the English department ready to write a letter of recommendation to Go for his MFA in Creative Writing.

I don't know if he wants to go to more college, But he has a gift of Taking science understanding its nuance and translating it into layman's terms without being condescending.

Nothing wrong with Taco Bell Transactions.... LOL.
