Well, I found the tell-tale feather pile - just outside the fence on the neighbor's property. So either:
A. We have a predator who grabbed him just before dark and took him over the fence (highly unlikely since there were no feathers in the coop)
Or...
B. He flew over the fence and we didn't find him last night - it was pouring rain, and he was black - so a predator got him.
That particular coop gives me grief. It's very secure IF the silly things would use it. There's plenty of room, lots of ventilation, etc. But, sometimes my roosters get ugly with each other (not often enough for me to build something new) and one will decide not to sleep in the coop. I've gotten fairly skilled at retrieving them from trees, but every now and then I miss one, or they get too high for me to reach with the big ol' pool brush. I bought some tarps to put up to try to discourage the tree flight...
Ugh.
