Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

Lots of new babies here in the past couple days. But this one that hatched this morning is my favorite.

Congrats!!!
Why didn't you say something when we were texting?!?!? :plbb

I've been trying to catch my AC keeping the bachelors from attacking each other. They especially like to beat up on my BCM (they ripped out his tail before I put the AC with them) They're much better behaved now, so he really only has to intervene a little.

:love
That's a d**m good boy! Love the side look as he goes past you like "Busy now, talk laters", lol...

my eggs are hatching. ... one dude hatched yesterday. .. has a bit of a hernia, not sure about the outcome on it.... next pip is surrounded by a bit of blood. blah not sure why..... hope the rest hatch normal.

BUT I had to take out the extra eggs (they were packed in there. .. 2 sets) and put then in Sally. I never did figure out what I needed to buy to replace Sally's wafer, so she is swinging between 98 and 100. hum.

If it's the wafer and not the element, just the round wafer is what you need.... the wafer has a threaded spot in center on one side, just twirls off and twirl new one on...

OMG! I just saw the Cayuga s eating dog poop! :he
Really? Why! I feed them constantly. :giggross!

That's what you get for calling them piggies! :lau

The duck that I lost today was SNOWBALL.
My favorite oldest and best duck.
She was the only duck that would let me pick her up. And the only duck who would eat right out of my hand.
Now I'm sure you all have lots of ducks that'll do that.... But I don't haven't the time to train them to be like that she was just comfortable with me...... She was the one who lived through two dog attacks.....View attachment 1348795

:hugs :hugs :hit

Hey @LittleLakePhil , I'm really sorry about your duck. :hugs

Well, Kewp passed away this morning. I checked on her around 5AM and she was still breathing but pretty much unconscious. By 11, she was gone. RIP sweet Kewp. Sadly, I don't have a pic. Think muffs, beard, partridge game bird coloring; typical farm store EE.

:hugs :hugs :hit

@LittleLakePhil and @orrpeople

so sorry about the loses! We have gotten to the point up here that we know if we like the chicken, especially like it and name it... guaranteed death sentence. That bad ones live for years.

:old Actually, it just feels that way, old man Dominique is 3 now, and I really like him. He looks healthy... except his feet... anyone know if the ivermec I used will also kill the scale lice? Or do I actually need to do the soak, bathe, scrub, oil thing?

Still have a bit of that pour on stuff? Just mix some up with Vaseline and coat it on thick a couple days in a row and see how that does...

:love :love

On the hatching front... 7 (of 9) bantam cochins have hatched, they are done. 1 Cream legbar (male) hatched, still nothing in the others, but a few are still alive. Aurora said they hatch late sometimes, so I'll be patient.

oh, and Lexi took the babies for a swim. While I worried. But look how cute. Lol

:love :love

Yep, those are Anconas... the more asymmetrical and scattered their spots, the better, I believe...

which one is the Drake? It isn't clear to me. Who was it hat bred Anconas? She had a jillion birds... sold most. .. friend of Rav.... uh..... farm..barn... mini horse farm???

Just how does your snow melt so fast?

Minihorse, yes, she still has Anconas... oh, and speaking of her, she got married Sunday!

Did y'all know that ducks don't get stressed ? I just learned that today. Never too late to learn. :old

Really? So my ducks laying eggs all across the yard in the pouring rain isn't from the very hormonal Massive Broody Brigade that took over the entire duck pen??? Hmmm...

My 4 drakes seem ok about sharing their pond with a beautiful pair of wild wood ducks. I set up a nest box last year, I think she is using it this year. :yesss:
(yes my pond is horribly muddy!)

I don't claim to be an artist by any stretch..... But I picked up a pencil yesterday for the first time in 30 years and started doodling for a few minutes....... It was relaxing..... Kinda wish I'd have kept doing it.
But raising a family took up my time..... And other interest.
Anyhow maybe I'll try and do some more just for giggles

Dude, you're good!!! :thumbsup

I just had a suck hatch...

I checked the eggs.. 2 died after the internal pip... 4 died right before internal pip :he Chicks looked great.. no deformity, not sticky, not shrink wrapped.... Of the 4 that did hatch.. 1 has an underbite (totally unrelated parents BTW )... might have to kill it. :rant

My only guess is the eggs were from too early in the season.. too cold and not enough vitamins. :idunno

So sorry, that sucks...
Hit them with a bunch of vitamins... all those lice and mites were sucking them dry of their nutrients, can cause all kinds of hatching issues when the egg doesn't get packed with the vites and nutrients the embryo needs...

I just now saw this...sorry, Lisa. :hugs I'm doing okay, thanks. I don't get on byc much these days. Hope all is well with you.

:hugs :hugs

Two of my goose eggs have shrinkwrapped but I think I caught it in time. Freed bills and coated membranes. All 3 are breathing and chirping and the humidity is coming back up finally.:fl

Odd... I ran mine in the Leahy and never added a drop of water and didn't get shrinkwrapping even when they hatched...

I have a pair. :p

 Ohh, wait, were you still talking chicks? :D

Of course you do!! :highfive:

And a couple of inside shots of the finished product. I don't have any handy right now that show it with the plastic over the panels. These were taken from each end inside. The front has - I think the style is barn doors - a split door so I can open the top part and leave the bottom closed so our deer friends don't wander in. The back end has a window flap that opens all the way down or I can use twine to adjust it to whatever I'd like for an opening. (These aren't this year's plants.)

Beautiful! :love

So I inadvertently sold a lady a cockerel instead of a pullet. After she left I was thinking I'd made a mistake, but she emailed today to confirm it. I apologized all over the place and gave her several options for either money back or some Biele pullets in exchange... Waiting to hear what she says, but I hate it when I do dumb stuff like that! Oh, and this is the lady that got the hug...

Chit happens, don't stress over it... you made an honest mistake and offered to correct it... :thumbsup

:gig:gig But this time, I'm going with an accent and big South American smooches on both cheeks!

:lau :lau

I lost one. :hit
The other 2 are hanging in there so far.:fl

Good morning Pond...
It's cloudy, but not raining at the moment.
Hope it's a good day for you all.:fl

Sorry for the lost one... just hang in there and be patient... mine took FOREVER too, but they did just fine...

Ravyn! :celebrate
Ya been missed gal!:hugs
Idk what happened. It stayed at 30% thru incubation then I got it up to 55 but it wouldn't go up any more till day 3 when it hit 65. Got up to 70 the last night. But they were in there tight.
They just kicked out of the shell.
Still have a bulge but the yolk absorbed.
What do ya think.. is it ok?
