No chicks have hatched here for two days now. The eggs should have been held back & all incubated at once, but I wasn't that bright. I'm starting to wonder if there'll be any more.
They are so cute! Man i hope i get more next year... i should since they will be in a pen soon!
Sooooo true! Mine still do it too.It's the only time my kids NEED to talk to me... even now.

Electrolytes, scrambled eggs, apple sauce, yogurt, warm baths, lots of cuddling... I don't know whats wrong with her. She's not showing signs of the M word. Her crop feels empty. Butt is clean, tho feels full... Egg bound maybe? This is Iris' mom Poppy. Remember we thought we were going to loose her last month? Ugh! Stress. Worry. Stress. Worry.

And yes, that is the neighbor's rabbit in the back there. He was underfoot the entire time. I might bring some rabbit pellets out for him, sigh. Poor thing seemed hungry, he was trying to get into an empty feed bag.

So, do emu have to be locked up at night like other poultry? Can't imagine much would target them unless you have big cats or bears or something.Emu barn progress continues:

I flipped mine on the beak when she did that and it stopped her..... Untill she went broody again.. flipped her and she stopped . I think she forgets in between broody spells...
Don't know if it's the same with chickens and ducks. . but when Sofie duck was broody and hissing and biting, I just started touching her a little bit every day slowly, each day I would stroke her just a bit more and a bit more until she calmed down some and eventually started accepting my probing. I started with that but ended up with a bloody hand...then flicked her beak and she backed off. Now i can reach under or pet her and she just growls..
