Malibu hatched #6!
The darkest one is the new one

No chicks have hatched here for two days now. The eggs should have been held back & all incubated at once, but I wasn't that bright. I'm starting to wonder if there'll be any more.

So far, the adults are not bothering the chicks. I was locking them out of the coop except to roost until last evening. Actually, they didn't even spend the night in the coop; all spent the night on the branch I put in the run when I built it. I think Momma hen ran them off :D

New phone! Yeah
Gotta try loading a pic then I’m off to bed too.

No rest for the weary today. Battling the first Invasion ants & trying to heal a sick chicken. Electrolytes, scrambled eggs, apple sauce, yogurt, warm baths, lots of cuddling... I don't know whats wrong with her. She's not showing signs of the M word. Her crop feels empty. Butt is clean, tho feels full... Egg bound maybe? This is Iris' mom Poppy. Remember we thought we were going to loose her last month? Ugh! Stress. Worry. Stress. Worry. :(

Tomorrow I'm gonna say, "Gee, I hope I can work my arse off all day today." and then maybe I'll catch a break.
Well crap Room (no pun intended:D).... im sorry! I hope she perks up soon!:hugs:hugs

And yes, that is the neighbor's rabbit in the back there. He was underfoot the entire time. I might bring some rabbit pellets out for him, sigh. Poor thing seemed hungry, he was trying to get into an empty feed bag.
Nice job! :highfive:
I had to look at that photo twice.... I knew emu eggs were big... but the thing on the right side of the photo looked like a dinosaur egg..... Just sayin' you probably shouldn't raise animals that want to eat you.

So, do emu have to be locked up at night like other poultry? Can't imagine much would target them unless you have big cats or bears or something. :hmm
And I would also like to know if you can saddle one up and ride it to work :p

I flipped mine on the beak when she did that and it stopped her..... Untill she went broody again.. flipped her and she stopped . I think she forgets in between broody spells...:idunno
Don't know if it's the same with chickens and ducks. . but when Sofie duck was broody and hissing and biting, I just started touching her a little bit every day slowly, each day I would stroke her just a bit more and a bit more until she calmed down some and eventually started accepting my probing. Lol. Of course she can't do much damage like a chicken could so that may not work for you.

I started with that but ended up with a bloody hand...then flicked her beak and she backed off. Now i can reach under or pet her and she just growls..:lau

Before her chicks hatched, she'd tolerate being stroked; wasn't crazy about it, but tolerated it. She'd start off growling, but stopped as I stroked & spoke. Since the hatch, she's having none of that, even though I've made no move toward the chicks. A leather glove is my friend. :hmm Maybe I just named her right...Grumpy
