Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

Morning Ponders!
Mom nature is being spastic again...can't make up her mind if it's rain or snow today, sigh. And more wind of course. At least it's below 40 mph today. About the same as the temps. Chickens are having none of it. Stuck their beaks out for a few and then right into the greenhouse for some dust bathing instead.
Perchie!!! I beat you!!! I got my apple butter done on Saturday. No apple sauce this year. Got a couple gallons left yet from last year. Actually used some of it in the butter batch. Probably hit the cider mill by the weekend for some fresh cider for the hot cider for the deer hunters this winter (and me too. Mulled cider, yum!)

I gotta get ready to drive to iron mountain this manana....Drs appointment of course.
Worked on a friend's car yesterday.
First car that got worked on in the shop.
I know it's still needs the front wall put on. But it was nice to be able to work under a roof with three walls anyways.View attachment 1940969
Especially since yesterday it just poured rain all day... And heavy wind.
(I know blue skies in the picture but it was taken the night before)
Anyway.... My friend had tried to replace a broken rear control arm. He ended up breaking the not off inside the frame....a little torch work and I was able to get inside the frame and cut the end of the bolt off.View attachment 1940973
I welded some extra metal back into place to beef it up... Turned out nice
I would have built a pit in there. Looking good though.:)

:lau

Yeah... getting to be the same here.... ages back now I spent huge amounts of money to have an oversized parking area by the house.... road to the barn, road to the shop, nice big parking area by the shop....

Now almost all of that gravel is covered! :barnie The in-laws boat is parked on the drove to the barn. . have to walk in the ditch to reach the bantam coop :rant boy scout trailer is parked on the drive to the shop... yep... can't drive to the shop... shop parking lot has a couple of "work on em maybe eventually they will work" vehicles...

Pad next to the house has a huge rack of canoes parked on it....

The GRASS LAWN between the house and main chicken coops has the brush hog and blade for the tractor that died and is gone, and the plow for the plow truck.....

I had the kids clean out the barn... seeing if I can put all of the 4-wheelers and snow machines in there... they can go up and down the ditches around the in-law's boat...

@chickisoup not sure how we had the same weather... but we did.... wind is still up in gusts... it was howling and raining all night... so the dog whined for hours.... :rant

For Som this is a double post... and I apologize but i am excited. The house smells like Apple pie.... but itsnot... LOL.

Woo Hoo Got my Apple butter started. Tomorrow I wont be able to lift my arms strained my shoulders sitting in a Dining room chair and cutting and coring Fifteen pounds of apples I so need a handicapped kitchen... Food 4 Less had five pound bags for 3 bucks... Gala and Granny smith... Boy oh boy those Galas have the perfect non mushy sweet texture... And I forgot how sour Granny Smiths were. No

I dont peel just pull the stem off and dig out the flower end Cut those ends off in about one inch slices NO core... Then cut the rest off the core in little wedges So 90 percent of the apple is used. When Its time I will use the immersion blender to make the peels disappear. They have natural pectin.

I am covered in Apple pie spice and brown sugar.... I dusted my face royally.... But so happy to do this... I either need low counters in my house or regular counters with a rolling Bar stool Get me up elbow height for cooking.

Next is about fifteen pounds of onions of ONION Jam... Woo Hoo. Both can be water bath canned... Not too ready for the pressure canning stuff. But I have the freezer full Of bones.... Kind of morbid right... enough chicken parts to do chicken stock, enough Beef parts to do beef stock, and Enough Salmon parts to do fish stock.

I have three chuck roasts for doing Full on Canning meat session. A whole brisket for Corning for Corned beef. Thats about 25 or 30 pounds un trimmed. I flipped it over in the store and there wasnt much fat hidden on the under side. Just enough fat to make it yummy.

All meat will go into quart jars... the Onion Jam and the Apple butter will go in four ounce jam jars. They are going to be given or sent as gifts.

Broth will go into quart jars as well. to be used for soups or to aid in pressure canning meats. No more boxed broth for me... :wee I will freeze some of the bone broth, or put it in a tupper ware container for my breakfast. pressure canning kills the geletin...

ONe step closer to home.

LOL.... My first big batch.... second batch ever... When I boat motored it last night the peels disappeared. I have to heat it again and reduce it a bit. I didnt feel safe leaving the roaster going all night.

Oh and I got too much Apple pie spice in it so I may have to get some un sweetened apple sauce to mitigate that... Note to self dont get in a hurry and pre mix the seasonings...

Wife is making pizza and spaghetti sauce today.... Our oven is broken.
The igniter went bad....I was going to take the igniter from the broiler. Then I broke it trying to wiggle it free.
Original equipment from fridgedaire is over $100. But I found a universal replacement for $12.....I checked the specs... No reason it shouldn't work just fine....
