Be keeping the little one and all the family in my prayers.Hello Pond!
Life has been a whirlwind since Thanksgiving. We had the turkey dinner at our house, then headed to middle son’s (4 hour drive) as soon as everyone left. Their 3rd baby was scheduled to be induced on Friday so we were going to be with the two older ones (grandsons ages 3 and 5) until Mom and baby came home. Our granddaughter was born at 6:05 am. At 7:30 she was acting lethargic, and tests showed that her blood sugar had crashed and her oxygen levels were unstable. At 8:00 the decision was made to fly her out to a larger hospital (two hours away by ground, 20 minutes by air) with a NICU. Once we found out when the flight crew was coming, my son headed out, both to beat the incoming weather and to hopefully meet Baby there when she arrived. As soon as he left, I went to the hospital to be with DIL. I was able to be in the nursery with them before the flight crew arrived. After they left with her, the nurse got things in motion for DIL to be discharged as soon as they deemed her stable enough to travel so she could get to the NICU. Ten hours after giving birth, she and my oldest son set out in the beginning of a snowstorm for the big hospital. They made it there and my son got back home safely. On Saturday the Dr. told DS and DIL to plan on at least a week there, depending on how Baby does. She currently has a feeding tube because she doesn’t stay awake long enough to eat enough to keep her blood sugar where they want it, and her oxygen sats still aren’t stable when they take her off the pressurized air so she’s receiving supplemental oxygen. She’s making progress, but it’s slow. DH left to go back to our place on Sunday, so I’m flying solo with the boys. Now I remember why God gives us little ones when we’re young! DS did come home on Monday afternoon in time to get the boys from school and daycare, got some things to take back to the hospital, and stayed until yesterday morning. He left right after dropping the kids off at their respective places.
