I know it looks horrendous now, but there is something to be said for things being in bad enough condition that you can just throw them out without thinking twice.

Once it's gutted you'll be able to update the wiring, put up new dryall, etc. and it's going to be great. It can all be re-done your way. I think the destruction phase is kind of fun once I get in the spirit & get the wrecking bar going.

I am so looking forward to tearing out the walls in the old part of our house some day & redoing it all.

Make sure you keep a great album.

So very sorry to read about your loss and the trouble with your BIL !!! Having just seen all the pics I cannot believe that he could have trashed such a lovely house as he has done...the interior is not something I envy you cleaning...I can't believe anyone would want to live like that...But good on you and your hubby for even attempting it....I hope all goes well and that you will be truly happy there. Fingers crossed the judge knows how much you both love the place, it should be yours anyway!

Keep us posted as to how it all goes.......Very Best Wishes to you both.

Oh my word.... Bless you, Guitartist. I would be afraid to walk through that house, much less touch anything!

Are those real wood floors? Maybe you could have the surface stripped and re-finished?

*Gulp*...you will be very busy!...but.still it will be yours AND it means something to you all...so..it will be worth it all!....just have to ask though....was someone killed in that tub?...

That bathtub gives me the shivers.... smells like something was killed in it.... but no. It backed up at some point. Though, this crazily enough gives me some hope that maybe those tub pipes are still ok and we can just have them snaked...we thought they were clogged beyond use.

Yeah..... the house has seen better days.... as I find old pics of the house I will post them also. I plan to make a big scrapbook of all of it.

New mantra: It WILL be nice again, it WILL be nice again, it WILL be nice again....

Best of success!!!

Yes, real hardwood floors...... once the house is empty we're going to rent a sander and then stain dark and seal. They won;t be perfect... but I think they will be nice. The biggest worry is whether or not the smells from the years of dog urine have soaked down too deep to get rid of..... I dread the first hot humid day

that would be cool...have like a before it got trashed...an after it got trashed...

...and then how you brought back its beauty!..

..awesome idea!...

The downstairs is just years of neglect....... the upstairs once I clean out all of the other brothers junk and trash...you'll see that the upstairs is much nicer because of the years DH spent there as a teen and also when we were there helping his mom and dad.

When we moved out there just wasn't time when visiting to help keep the downstairs from going downhill again. Just too many animals and a bachelor that didn't or couldn't do much cleaning himself. We all would do a little here and there... but, you can see that it was very daunting. It looked very close to this when I moved in...and I managed to keep it livable and sanitary while there.... but once we left it became an impossible chore.

I regret though that I didn't have more time to go and do more on a regular basis.... I guess it was just too easy to shrug my shoulders because Terry was just used to it and didn't care. It was something that was more for everyone else's benefit crazily enough.
