While mine may not crow all night I have one that starts pretty early .... 4 am. The other one sleeps in until 5:30am. I did have some young roosters that started around 3am and crowed until bedtime again at 3pm. I have since sold them to homes where they are the only rooster. I have always felt it's more of a competition thing, sort of calling smack on other crowers they hear in the distance and then I am surrounded by homes (on 5 acres) that leave lots of outdoor lights on all night. Might get a dumb roo confused. Guess it all comes down to a personal choice.. if its a problem you make changes.

I don't think I've ever had a roo that didn't crow at least part of the night.

I'd say the problem here is communication.

Well he's alright now just told me to not give the malays away.

Now I didn't read all the postings , buuuuttttttt.

I have 8 or 9 in the coop and none crow at night that I know of. I've had chickens for a while. Most of these are Dels with one Amer. I had a CM roo and I don't recall him crowing at night either.

I have a Bantam brwn leghorn and he starts at 4:30 or later. Never had that. I figure breed makes the difference.

Now for DH, I would try to get the rooster back if you can. Buy or trade if you must but your relationship is more important than anything else. As long as DH understands the crowing might cause problems and he'll have to deal with it.

Hope this works out.

This is not a relationship thing. LOL It's just that I didn't know he even liked the rooster that much we have and had so many I didn't realize it would be a prob. at least I thought him to pretty to put in the freeze. I can't say I didn't have plans for him as a breeder cause I did but I can not tolerate a night crower. DH did not like the crowing either so that is the reason I gave him to a friend and told them for some reason if they didn't like him to bring him back. So we where on different pages that's all nothing major just a little heart broken that I gave away his little buddy. I was going to mix him w/ the orloffs and see what I got.

Say, "I'm so sorry, next time we'll have a special band put on the ones we want to keep no matter what. THat way this never happens again."

"So would you like me to hatch some little chicks just for you?"

The orloffs aren't laying yet, but he did have a run with a del. hen I did save 4 of her eggs in hope that they are fertile. So we'll see.
