Well, he's toast now

rooster has no rights, only privileges gifted to him by a benevolent human who keeps him from starvation, predation, and even the weather. It's not only aggression we are talking about here, but basic intelligence. Why perpetuate genetics that have shown them TSTL (too stupid to live).

Amen and Amen!

If a rooster challenges you, don't just face off with him (which lets him think he's holding his own), instead you have to get him on the run. Truly running away from you. The same way they act when they've lost to another rooster.
Oh, believe me, I did exactly that. And yes, it worked...for the rest of that day. But the next day it was like a switch was flipped and his humiliating defeat was thoroughly wiped from his memory, and he was right back to being an enthusiastic member of Fight Club (damn, I just broke the first rule).

I was a little shocked some people in this thread seemed to be saying the hens belong to the rooster.
I guess I'm in that camp. That's really the most prominent aspect of a rooster's existence, to watch over his harem. He's not just a bedazzled hen. I try to allow him to be what he is as much as possible and within certain limits. In my mind they are his girls, unless and until I have to reclaim them for various reasons, because of course I am the supreme ruler in the end.

You are never going to be the boss, no matter how much you try.
The hens are always going to be his hens. he doesn't care that you paid for them.

The Boss.
My view is, if you want to be the boss then you need to be able to do what the boss does.
Can you fertilize the eggs of all the hens each day?
Will you be there every day and every night?
Will you escort the hens to and from their nesting and egg-laying sites?
What about giving them the best bits of your dinner?
Can you get the hens to follow you?
Are you prepared to die for them?
Of course, you won’t get bored and wander off when they have a long dust bath.
Are you going to dig for treats and give them to the hens?
How about breaking up their fights?
Can you see that hawk in the trees?
What about that weasel over there in the bushes?
Can you get the hens to accept you as the boss?
Yes, I know you can kill the rooster….
He’s still the boss, he’s just the dead boss.

In my company "the boss" is the CEO, and he provides the food, shelter and real estate in which everyone lives, locks them up at night and lets them out in the morning, has the power of life and death over them, etc. The party who carries out the duties you list is just middle-management.

I just love the deluded.:p:D

It's not delusion...especially given who has the power to do the firing, and who doesn't. I simply don't accept the circular logic of defining "the boss" as being whatever it is an individual does based on pre-labeling him "the boss".

"What makes someone the boss?"

"Doing X, Y and Z."

"Why does that make someone the boss?"

"Because that's what the boss does."

"What makes him the boss?"

"Because he does X, Y and Z."

It's like saying, "That guy is honest. How do I know he's honest? Because he's telling the truth. How do I know he's telling the truth? Because he's honest."

I must have seen hundreds of these I'm going to kill a rooster posts.
Why would anyone think it's a topic worth posting about especially when the majority of rooster deaths in such threads have nothing to do with hunger, just bent pride because a bird one tenth of a persons bodyweight has had them over.

I don't know if that's the dumbest thing I've ever read here, but it certainly ranks in the top 5 or so. I guess I should thank you for making it clear that you're not to be taken seriously, and saving me from wasting any more time doing so from here on out.
