Hey all!

My name is Wendy and I am a first-timer chicken owner from Woodstock, NH! Yesterday my family and I drove 2 hours(yes, 2 hours through the mountains) to pick up 7 chickies :) We ended up getting 6 Speckled Sussex and 1 Naked-neck. I am proud to say that they are one week old today! Anyway, I do have a question since I just bought them yesterday from a poultry farm(not hatchery). They came covered in poo-- what is the best way to clean them off without harming them?? Looking forward to 'meeting' all you other chicken owners and learning more about my new feathered family :)

! Great to have you with us!! You will love the Speckled Sussex - very calm and friendly. I've never had Naked Necks so I can't say about them. At only a week old I think you hold each one gently and submerge the poo covered area in some luke warm water until it dissolves or loosens up. Gently dry them and make sure they have access to their heat lamp afterward. Enjoy your chicken adventure!!
