My almost 7 week old chickies have flown the coop. I mean brooder. They are out in the coop with 2 huddle boxes and a heat lamp, straw and they have each other.... The coop is 8x8 by 9high. Part of it is insulated but part isn't. The forecast is calling for lower to middle 60's and 40's at night. Do you think they will have enough to keep warm? Worried momma here ya know.... :hit

I'm a paranoid chick mommy, if it's under 50°F I bring them back inside. But when it starts getting cool, go check on them, they should tell you whether or not they're too cold. Use your gut instincts :) that's what I do

They don't need a heat lamp at 7 weeks! I moved mine out at 5 weeks and we had lows in 30's, and they did fine. It froze 2 nights later, they were unfazed. They have down jackets, lol.....

Well, I kind of feel the same way but I look at it this way. If it's too warm they can move away from it.

x2. If you keep them under heat, they'll never get used to the different highs and lows in your area. They can really do without the heat.

Look at it this way, though... when it's a little chilly out, do you wanna get out of bed? Same reasoning with the heat lamp. They'll keep using it as long as you provide it.
