They are both pullets. The white silkie and the partridge showgirl are both pullets. I'm getting an egg a day from each and the roo is doing his thing. I will test for fertility in a month or so. Still can't tell on the partridge silkie yet.
So hopefully you will get a roo out of your hatch onthespot
Chef's birds came from a friend of mine in Phelan, Ca. She has both Show girls and Silkies.
The White silkie was hatched from a Showgirl hen, white. My friend started out with only white showgirls in 2008.
The Partridge color comes from her Partridge Roo-Splitz. So, white and partridge could equal partridge. This Roo and the Buff Roo were hatched from eggs from the internet in 2007, I watched and shared this part of her life in 2007. In 2007, she handled her birds often.
She also has a buff Silkie Roo.
I have one of her partridge hens-Copper. Copper is the same age as Chief's Partridge.
I have one of her white hens-Snowball. Snowball was laying when I got her from my friend, she is one of those showgirl eggs that hatched out silkie.
I will update you-if any eggs hatch. My Roo is a Black Silkie, with a brown collar. He may be a Partridge, hard to tell. All of my Silkies are shown on my member page, go into Coupe 1.
Oh, Chef...that last bird, Roo or hen. Take your finger and touch the vent, look for the bones. The bone opening is larger, just under finger size...on a hen and small for a roo. I bet you will look at that now when you cook a whole chicken...Hen or Roo? LOL
My friend who shows chickens just uses regular johnsons baby shampoo. She has been doing it for years with no ill effects. Good luck. CUTE birds! Even the showgirl is a little cute
Good to see you on here suzie. Yes these birds from Julie are doing VERY good! It turns out that I have 3 pullets and a roo
I'm getting three eggs a day now. It's hard to believe that the little partridge can already lay an egg
Unless one of the other pullets is laying 2 so I'm not possitive. I will be putting some eggs in the bator very soon to see if we have any action. I'm kinda hoping one will go broody for me
but not till they get a little bigger.
Johnsons baby shampoo huh... thats easy enough. I will pick some up. Thanks for the tip.
I will have eggs to ship out in a month or so. If anyone would be interested I will be selling them for $25 a dozen shipped w/ extras. I aslo have RIR eggs as well.
