Well I hope to be leaving for Old Blighty next Monday...

One beautiful thing about England is that there isn't a wasted scrap of countryside and farmland is preciously protected. The downside is that where 100 acres here would seem like a nice manageable spot to grow some veg and have animals, that would be considered a massive operation. Also, having to get "planning permission" to put up a polytunnel is utter bollocks. And my children will NEVER wear a school uniform.

There, I said it. That's about the extent of my complaints. Other than that, it will be our next adventure in life uprooting and heading 'home'.

That's less than 1/2 the cost of our 7 acres

Ouch! That's about what our 160 acres ranch would sell for.

Tell ya what though, someday I'll gladly trade in our dryland ranch for some much smaller nicely irrigated property. I sure get tired of working on fences! It's just tooo much.

greyfields, you seem torn between two countries (worlds).

What freaks me out is that your picture in your avatar is the spitting image of a friend named Steve that helped me lead a worship team at a church a few years ago. You two could be twins. He is intelligent and well-read too.

I've always felt like a 'tweener'. I guess the only problem is I have no accent like my nanna did, so I still get stares whenever I open my mouth while over there on holiday. I have met people in Yorkshire who have never met an American. How bizarre is that?

As for the photo, that's me after your typical 18 day working on a farm, having sweated through 15 or so t-shirts, needing a shave and a haircut, not wearing my signature farm hat, and there is a goose on my lap. That goose is Olive, she's my favorite goose. She'll let me pick her up and will sit on my lap to be stroked. However, she always craps on my lap and ruins the moment. She has no manners really. So I only let her up there when I'm already filthy.

Nearly.... finished.... with.... this... stupid... project. All I want to do is pack.

I am envious. I visited England and Scotland back in '91... 2 weeks was not long enough, but I fell in love with the countryside. If I ever thought that hubby would be ok with leaving the country, that's where I'd go. The UK is a lovely place to be.

I had to post photos prior to meeting Silkiechicken because she left permanent scars on my face. She beat me mercilessly. It's apparently an Asian custom to beat your guests mercilessly and to within inches of the life.
