Well, I just candled... UPDATE 5/29 with pics from the hatch!

Today is Day 10, so I candled the eggs in my LG. I guess I'll just have to take the good with the bad on this one. These are all from BYCers...

6 Silkies - only 1 had veins, the others were very obviously clear

6 Salmon Faverolles from Harleys Girl - ALL 6 have veins!!

14 RIR from RHewitt - 9 with veins and 5 clear
And 12 Guineas, and ALL were clear, not a sign of life in one of them

And these were VERY easy to see through, so there's no chance I'm wrong.

Also, a neighbor had given me 3 chickens a few weeks ago... The only adult chickens I have. There's a RIR hen, some kind of bantam hen, and a White Faced Spanish something rooster. Annnyway, I took 2 of the RIR eggs and 1 of the other hens and threw them in with these just too see what would happen, and all 3 have veins! So thats's exciting, but I am so bummed about my Silkies and Guineas!!

Like you said, take the good with the bad. Shipping is hard on eggs period. Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't... Good luck with the rest of the hatch!

I didn't throw any of the eggs away, should I? I'm a bit excited to see what comes out of 'my own' eggs, collected 3 more today to try.

I have some from Harley's girl too, all my Salmon Favorelles are developing nicely, definite veining and movement.

Sorry about your guineas. I needed mine for tick control also so I bought 20 from the hatchery as day olds. They are harty little things.

Ohhhhh yeah and my RIR/black bantam egg hatched too! I have to get a picture of him still, he was a little slower at drying off, so he was lookin kinda sad when I took these pics. But he is small, black, with black feet!
